This was the obligatory stop-over to break the trip ... but we'd never stayed there before. we stayed at the New 7th Storey Hotel (which apparently has now been demolished) for two nights, during which time we wandered down town, took a boat trip:
and went to the Asian Art Museum.
Then flew home ...

Turkey: Göreme
And then to Göreme:
where we'd booked into the Kelebek Boutique Hotel:
- a bit of indulgence in a large two-storey room:
- bedroom on the ground floor, large sitting area upstairs:
shared breakfast area next door on the rooftop:
all set in a green walled garden:
with cat (Empress Zoe) who adopted Pat (or vice versa):
overlooking the town:
and then back to Göreme along the edge of the cliff, from where you could see over the town - and spot our hotel:
All the time, drinking (great mineral water):
and eating (Thai curry):

We used this as a base to walk in various valleys - first along Pigeon Valley:
then along Red Valley:
and then Rose Valley to Uchisar:

Another day we went out to the Gulsehir Open Air Museum:
We also went to a little (unmarked) church carved in the cliff near our hotel:
as well as to Pasabagi:
and the Open Air Museum at Zelve:
All the time, drinking (great mineral water):

We drove relatively uneventfully back to Istanbul (stopping at a very expensive hotel near Abant: Büyük Abant Oteli - with 'free' dinner and breakfast, but not the greatest food) and returning the car to near Taksim Square ... navigating blind through the suburbs.
Flew out to Singapore ...
