Turkey: Safranbolu

We picked up a car near Taksim Square (brave) and drove out of Istanbul (even braver), running the toll bridge across the Bosphorus (mistaken and foolish). Out east to Safranbolu, where we stayed at the Toruing Club Safranbolu Hotel:

Our room:

The ceiling:

And the bathroom tiles:

Downstairs there was an indoor pool - not for swimming in, but for sitting around:

Some views around the town:

We took a tourist ride in a golf buggy (which broke down part way along and had to be replaced):

but this enabled us to get some good views over the town, including from the old town hall/museum on a hill:

There was also a clocktower there that we climbed and met the caretaker who was, with us, winding the clock:

And someone cutting the lawn:

A house museum nearby:

The bazaar in the centre of town:

One day we drove to a nearby 'nomad village': Yörük Koy:

Here there was also a house museum:

and a Bektasi laundry:

Another day we drove to a Roman aqueduct in a stony gorge near another part of Safranbolu:

And of course, we ate:
